14. Keep Creative Control Without Sight
Use intention, hierarchy and proportionate review to remain the author.
The lesson
A blind creator can control the concept, constraints, revisions, sound and publication choices without certifying every pixel.
Descriptions, comparison and selective human review are instruments; they do not become the author.
Spend verification on details carrying meaning, harm or reputational risk.
Control the process
- Develop the idea in words.
- Define essential and forbidden elements.
- Generate and request a literal description.
- Compare the account with the brief.
- Make named revisions rather than vague improvements.
- Escalate checking as audience, stakes and permanence increase.
Choose a finish line
A personal experiment may be finished when it delights you. Public work carrying your name may need an independent second review. Commercial, sensitive or safety-related work may require a designer, intended audience member or qualified human reviewer.
Try it
Write a five-line visual brief stating purpose, audience, essential elements, forbidden elements and the test for success. Add whether the work is green, amber or red and what that means for review.
