# The Bride

> The Bride is the occasion stocking of Seamiotics, a refined soft ivory offered Plain only, because a seam that has to survive a dress should be chosen with the dress in the room.

**Canon.** This entry is written from inside the CharliVerse, so its people and companies are fictional. Behind the scenes says what is real.

**The Bride** is always simply The Bride: the occasion stocking of [Seamiotics](https://charli.info/charlipedia/seamiotics/), every seam means something. A refined soft ivory, an occasion stocking rather than a novelty, elegant enough to become part of the memory of the day. Both welts; Plain only.

## Why Plain

Every seam Seamiotics makes argues on its own account and asks nothing of the garment above it. A bridal seam cannot. It enters the one field the dress has already claimed, the back, where a wedding dress puts its most expensive work, and the imprint has never seen the dress. "A seam that has to survive a dress should be chosen with the dress in the room." [First Layer](https://charli.info/charlipedia/first-layer/) has the dress; Seamiotics does not.

## Why ivory

[Polar](https://charli.info/charlipedia/polar/) white already belongs to Iceberg, and is explicitly not bridal. White is also the harder colour in a 20-denier sheer, greying against the skin and photographing badly on the one day that matters most.

A wedding is a long day of sitting, cars, low chairs and photographers below eye level. Some brides will want the welt kept to themselves, and some will want it seen by one person at the end of the day. The house takes no view on either.

## Behind the scenes

The Bride is described in the Seamiotics Bible, version 1.4, which leaves open whether The Bride belongs in Seamiotics at all, or whether the imprint should supply First Layer and let the occasion be composed there.
