invisible
Canon. This entry is written from inside the CharliVerse, so its people and companies are fictional. Behind the scenes says what is real.
invisible is the honest skin range of the House of Iceberg, and the one product line Iceberg Hosiery and Seamiotics hold identically. It is a house value, not a brand gimmick.
- Never "nude". Its purpose is not to imitate one skin tone but to disappear gracefully against the wearer's own.
- A true range, across many complexions, rather than a single pale beige pretending to be universal.
- Never named. Its shades are never given women's names. Attaching a historical woman to a particular complexion would ask which skin gets to be the clever one, which is indefensible. The named women describe colours that are no one's skin.
- Always lower-case, in every typographic treatment, and never seasonal. It is a range rather than a piece.
At Seamiotics, the seam on an invisible stocking is matched to the leg, or there is no seam at all.
At Iceberg, invisible is part of the permanent range but its launch is deliberately held back until it can offer a credible range across complexions. "The house would rather ship it late than ship it dishonestly."
Behind the scenes
invisible is set out in the House of Iceberg Bible, version 7, and the Seamiotics Bible, version 1.4.
