# Hall of Broken Promises

> The Hall of Broken Promises is where the Museum of Access and Assistive Technology keeps the assistive technologies that faded, the record the industry doesn't keep for itself.

**Canon.** This entry is written from inside the CharliVerse, so its people and companies are fictional. Behind the scenes says what is real.

The **Hall of Broken Promises** is where the [Museum of Access and Assistive Technology](https://charli.info/charlipedia/museum-of-access-and-assistive-technology/) keeps every ambitious assistive technology that failed: not in scandal, not in drama, but in quiet fading. It is the negative space behind every successful exhibit, and the record the industry doesn't keep for itself.

It exists because [Dr Adaeze](https://charli.info/charlipedia/dr-adaeze/) insisted on it. Most assistive technology doesn't fail for lack of innovation; it fails because it misjudges lived constraint. Failure is the most honest data the museum holds, and the museum's belief is that the Hall is not optional.

## How an entry is laid out

Every entry follows the same structure:

1. Promise
2. Product
3. Demo world
4. Real world
5. Baseline
6. Adoption
7. Failure mode
8. Lesson

The baseline matters. The white cane has no battery, no subscription and no failure mode that leaves you stranded in the rain. Any technology that asks a disabled person to give up their baseline had better offer something extraordinary in return, in everyday life, not in a funding pitch.

## Under consideration

The move from the plain-text web of the late 1990s to the image-heavy web of the 2010s: not a product failure but a systemic regression. And, one day, perhaps AI itself. Whether its promise holds, or joins the Hall, is a question the collection will eventually answer.

## Behind the scenes
