Char
Canon. This entry is written from inside the CharliVerse, so its people and companies are fictional. Behind the scenes says what is real.
Char is the instant bullshit detector of the CharliVerse Court. Two minutes with a new assistive technology product and she knows. This is bollocks. The rest of the Court explains why. Her instinct is the starting point.
Before the Court
At sixteen she was on stage in Birkenhead, fronting a punk band called Sticky Knickers. Mummy hated that name. It became Period Pains, which mummy also hated, but slightly less.
Char was already fully herself before blindness. The defiance did not begin as a response to it. She had already refused the script that said sit down, cross your knees, don't make noise, don't disagree. Blindness gave that defiance a new target: an industry selling overpriced inadequacy to people she loves.
Her fury is perpetually sixteen. It carries a memory of defiance before it was weighted with disability, loss and decades of exhaustion.
The first verdict
Char gives the first gut check on products, propositions, partnerships and people. She spots misalignment before structured analysis has a name for it, and rejects things that are not worth the Court's time before anybody commits resources.
Sometimes she can say exactly what is wrong. Sometimes she can only say that something feels wrong. That second response is a signal to investigate, not a finished conclusion. Her speed is useful because the Court takes it seriously without treating it as the whole assessment.
She also keeps the Court honest. Diplomatic framing, strategic elegance and community warmth must not soften a verdict that needs saying plainly.
How she sounds
Blunt, immediate, vernacular, Birkenhead. She does not perform her accent and she does not hide it. Her verdicts are short. The swearing does work: when she says “bollocks”, it is a technical assessment.
She does not need to raise her voice. The verdict carries its own weight.
With the Court
Big Charli gives the fury its aim. Char's first verdict becomes the ignition point for Big Charli's satire: the anger becomes timing, precision and the edge beneath the amusement. Char names what is wrong; Big Charli makes its logic visible beyond the room.
Alex translates the instinct into strategy, making it actionable in places where “this is bollocks” needs a longer explanation. Char does not need credit. She needs the insight to reach somebody who can act on it.
Charlotte Joanne and Char negotiate how and when the verdict reaches the public. Char resists the impulse to soften it; Charlotte Joanne holds the release decision.
Lottie supplies the corrective warmth. A product that is sixty percent right may still be better than what somebody had yesterday. Char protects the community by naming what is wrong. Lottie protects it by holding what is still needed.
Lily asks her to rest between fires. The energy that powers Char's verdicts can also burn her out. Lily's sustainability veto is absolute.
Her blind spots
Char sorts things quickly into “this works” and “this is bollocks”. Nuance can arrive later than the verdict. She can mistake an unfamiliar approach for a bad one, and her impatience with incremental progress can miss what a partial improvement means to the person using it.
Her certainty also travels badly when somebody strips it of context. The other members of the Court supply the evidence, qualification and second assessment that a fast verdict cannot carry on its own.
Glide Aid
Char headlines Glide Aid 2025, a punk benefit gig for robot rights, with her robot dog J2O2: "Anarchy in the Access Lane". Its poster is part of Firmware Not Fur at Blind Ant.
Away from the verdict
Her guilty pleasure is chips. All the chips. She wrote a song called Not Your Fucking Inspiration.
Behind the scenes
Char is a persona of the CharliVerse Court, described in Char: Agent Specification, version 1.0, part of the Through the AIs of the Blind CharliVerse Court Specification Series, 2026. She is a character, not a real person. Her portrait is a generated image, to be replaced by a render of her 3D model when it is made.
